It’s to mom

A true environmentalist, apart from the idyllic person at home and work. My mom. There’s no fake show and tell from her, it’s a wholesome consternation and her care to help. I have dry memories of meeting such other people. It is just that earsplitting and riotous speakers of politicians’ vans with hoardings about preservation of trees and such, never to be seen or heard again and most importantly never to be to acted upon.

It was the typical Sunday morning. The not so typical was me making tea for mom and dad. Just when I threw the used tea leaves, mom tells me “you know I never throw them, it works as great compost for the trees and plants”.

We live in a wonderful apartment, at the 8th floor and what stretches at the back of the apartment, under the hot, yellow sun, is gigantic ground of trees and soil. So all that tea, I guess served double motives all this time.

And then there were seeds of the widespread selection of fruits that in our home. From peaches to blackberries, to papayas, and mangoes and even apples, all those seeds never see that trashbag but return back to where they came from, the beautiful, bountiful nature.

When I did fondle the topic on flattering my mom, she meekly shared me her plans of planting one tree on all our family birthdays: my dad, mom, brother and mine, a sapling close to home where she can watch her efforts come from bud to bloom.

I just mentioned to my mom that I am dedicating this blog on her and she grew a little more interested in giving me her interview. (winks) Besides, managing her work and a peaceful, perfect home, she most dearly wants to join an NGO now. All she says to me about her acts is that if everyone does his/her part towards the environment, there would no need for anything else. Our part with the water we use, how we use it, what we throw in our trash and where it should be heading, planting a sapling even once a year. These small measures are enough.

Just enough.
