Over the yorker yelling on the near-miss hit and shrieking at the foul given to the finger spin and under the slow, medium and fast deliveries, somewhere, there is a me trying to flip channels for something, ANYTHING that doesn't speak blue.
Not that it is a complete bothersome bamboozle to me or that the men are out of shape to look at but the fever hasn't such a congaious virus strain to get me sick. I am astonishing myself when I dedicate a post to the maddening, clinging obsession of a ‘game’ to this country.
Honestly, if the teams werent playing for” The Cup”, we would just hear people ask “what’s the score?”. Even the fuddy-duddy fans who may even manage to sneak peak at the game go for the highlights at the end of the day. And when I judge those who just ask for the scores are fake fans, I get a bouncer on my opinion for that as well.
But its true. I have rarely come acrosss soccer fans who skip watching the game and ask for the score at the end of the day. Test cricket is already as mundane as watching snooker on cable. The insane enthusiasm and love for the sport and country suddenly arises after 4 years of hiberantion or when monopolistic bargains like IPL, which almost all strappingly opposed but now furtively adore, comes. This isnt gamelove. Its ludicrous.
And those argue have the most nonsensical arguments. There never seems to be time to watch a game on a regular day but for the world cup, we tiptoe to the television at work, at business getaways, charity events, educational tours, socialistic tea parties, anything.
And the things I have to say about “the god” of cricket can actually stop parliament sessions and bring a raid of enraged crowd into my house. It’s a team sport in the eyes of people who are too waxed to see. Each is trying only to higher their own game statistics so that the kids on the avenue can flaunt their collection of cricket cards of their favorite player they get free with junk food.
And at the risk of inviting a war, I still say that even poker is played with more integrity.
