Smile at a stranger today. Either when jogging on the pavement, running an errand, gardening out in the front yard, selecting your favorite cereal in WalMart or wherever it may be because nothing is more affectionate to the stranger and liberating to oneself. Think about all the people we miss on a daily-weekly basis: the paperboy, the mailman/postman/parcel delivery man, milkman, security, cashier, cab driver, doorman, waiter, pizza delivery boy, salon staff, ice-cream vendor… Even though they are not all stranger to us, we do forget to mellow down, take a second and send them a warm smile to add more yellow to their day.
When we were little, everything we saw made us smile; our parents, our teachers, every passerby who would tilt their heads and go googglywobblygoo to us and that every person who pulled our cheeks and tickled our belly just to see us smile because it made them smile. All the cartoons smiled and even the rock, the sun, the grass and the clouds had smiley faces. All our books, stories, t-shirts, toys, bed spreads, pillow covers, jammies, bicycle, socks, crayon cases, room wallpaper, candy wrapper, everything had a smiley to it.
Now that we can tie our own shoes, make our own breakfast and eat it without a bib doesn’t mean that out mouths only curve up and down when we’re chewing.
So whomever you meet, give them a second and show how beautiful you look and how soft they get when you smile.
