Cashing a Pride Pay

We have framed childhood pictures of us when we wobbled our first crawl or when the tooth fairy honored her first visit. We have framed pictures with our closest companions, colleague, cousins, or callers. And we have framed pictures of all those themed birthdays, bar mitzvahs, barn dances or balls. Its now time, when we’ve saturated our shelves and sills with all those “first moments” and “fist buddies”, to designate space for the first ever cheque.

I’ve held important papers before: field-trip forms of the first school overnights, report cards, college essays, fee receipts, bills, etc and will of course in the future like dissertation or interview calls or business proposals but this right now, lounging lavishly on top of my entire exam jumble, is the most important piece of horizontally-stretched credit that I carry.

This is my soliloquy moment with my eyes fixated on my name more than the amount on the cheque because this is where, besides all those ‘A’ tests and certificates and invitations, it looks self-admittedly beautiful.

This is the first time i'm going to enjoy going the bank. And it’s definitely going to be framed.
